What is fogging

Ultra-low volume (ULV) disinfection fogging involves using a fogger machine to generate a cloud of extremely small droplets of a disinfectant liquid. The application of disinfectants and biocides using this method can significantly reduce the number of pathogens both on surfaces and in the air.

The droplets can settle underneath, on top of and on the sides of many objects and inaccessible areas that may be difficult or not possible to reach using conventional cleaning methods. It also reaches a wider range of surfaces than manual cleaning, including textiles.

Rapid ULV fogging and disinfection enables the treatment of large areas in a short space of time to help to quickly break the chain of infection.

Why use disinfectant

Pathogenic microbes such as virus, fungi and pathogenic bacteria are the main cause of airborne or direct contact diseases affecting animals and humans. Studies show the application of disinfectants and biocides via aerosol or fogging significantly reduce the number of viable infectious pathogens. Foggers produce micro droplets that float in the air for around 10 minutes after application, reaching the most inaccessible parts where conventional cleaning or spraying can’t reach.

What setting should I have the machine on

It is essential to set the right micron size on your ULV fogging machine to kill COVID-19. Too small microns and the disinfectant will take too long to settle on surfaces and too large and you will not kill any virus particles in the air. Research has shown that the optimum particle size is 10 microns. To set this on your CP5 turn the front dial to 2 ¼. , and the same for the CB500. The CF300 needs to be left in the closed position as supplied. If using a different fogging machine, ensure it is capable of creating this micron size and refer to the instruction manual.

How often do I need to fog my premises

Although the machine adjustment to correct partical size will ensure you are killing 99% of virus particles, some virus particles in the air are smaller than 0.3 microns and might escape the fog. To protect from any surviving virus particles, we recommend regular fogging especially in areas where there is a known outbreak.

Untreated Coronavirus is believed to last up to 72 hours on a surface . Our disinfectants will kill viruses and bacteria on contact and whilst they are persistent and remain effective once dry unlike others it is recommended that treatments are carried out at least weekly with high risk ‘touch points’ wiped with a disinfectant daily.
