Medical specialists have evaluated research findings relating to the resistance of viruses (e.g. SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV or SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19)) to air humidity and temperature. These evaluations have shown that only low temperatures and a low humidity make it possible for the viruses to survive for long periods of time. While the survival times of the viruses were still long at moderate temperatures of 20-30 °C, they were only long if the air was very dry at the same time. And very high temperatures above 30 °C render the coronaviruses inactive. This means we are offering ideal climatic conditions to the virus in our buildings at temperatures between 20 and 24 degrees and a humidity level at 20 to maximally 40 %. Or not at all!

Medical specialists emphasize that we are able to reduce the risk of infection by increasing the humidity level in buildings. In this way, increasing the humidity level to approx. 50 % by humidification will reduce the risk of transmission. Since almost two thirds of the SARS cases have occurred by transmission in hospitals, we can in particular expect a disproportionately positive effect by the additional air humidification here. However, we can also apply air humidification in our private and professional surroundings. Moreover, the humidified air improves the defence situation of the respiratory tract by more efficient cleaning of the air passages and an improved immune defence.
